What can I expect from your Acupuncture treatment sessions?

After talking with your practitioner about how acupuncture can help you, they will send you some consultation forms to fill out prior to you attending your initial consultation and treatment session.

During this initial consultation, which should take about an hour, your practitioner will go through the forms with you and discuss your main complaint and other areas of health that you may be concerned with. They will also use Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnostics, like looking at your tongue and feeling the pulses. All this information is then put together to formulate your diagnosis and personal treatment plan.

Most importantly they will work out your constitutional elemental imbalance. This will become clearer as treatment sessions progress.

After the initial consultation you will have your first acupuncture (or Tui Na) session. Usually a few fine sterile needles will be placed in the back, feet or hands. Sometimes they can be left in for 10 – 20 minutes, sometimes they can be inserted and taken out after a sensation has been achieved, this all depends on what is needed in the session.

Generally in Five Element Acupuncture very few needles are used. It is usually a very relaxing sensation. After the treatment your practitioner will discuss relevant lifestyle advice with you that would be beneficial, such as various Chinese health related exercises, meditations or specific Chinese medicine dietary/food advice, again depending on your specific health needs.

What can expect from Acupuncture treatment?

All new patients will have a Full Traditional Diagnosis (FTD) when first coming to the clinic. This allows us to assess you and your health on the deepest level from a Chinese Medicine point of view. Most of this will happen during your initial consultation but will also involve the patient filling out a few forms prior to coming and some extra work by the practitioner after the first treatment. This initial consultation will normally take up to 2 hours depending on the patient’s condition. For all further treatments the patient should set aside 1 hour. For children (up to and including the age of 12) initial consultation and first treatment will last 1.5 hours and subsequent treatments approximately 30 minutes. Please see the tables below for treatment costs. Reductions are available for booking sessions in advance. This is to help patients who need regular treatment and wish to keep things cost effective.
